Official Trailer: ‘For Colored Girls…’

by Mignon on September 14, 2010

For Colored Girls Who’ve Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf is a 1975 play by Ntozake Shange. Initially staged in California, it has been performed Off-Broadway and on Broadway, and adapted as a book, a television movie, and now a film. The play is a series of 20 poems performed by a cast of seven women characters, each of whom is known only by a color: “Lady in Yellow, Lady in Purple,” etc.

The poems deal with love, abandonment, rape, and abortion and is embodied by each woman’s unique story. Tyler Perry took on the task of adapting this play into a film titled ‘For Colored Girls,’ which will be released in theaters on November 5th. The official trailer for the film was just released moments ago and shows us what a dramatic, poignant film this will be. This is actually the first film Perry has done where he was not the writer of the script, so I’m sure to portray someone else’s vision appropriately was no easy feat but it looks like he may have done it justice.

The film stars a cast of heavy hitters including Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose and Phylicia Rashad to name a few. Check out the trailer below. From the looks of it, this will be something you won’t want to miss.
