Tomorrow night at 8pm EST, BET (Black Entertainment Television) will air it’s annual special BET’s Celebration of Gospel. The network will be celebrating its 10th anniversary of the show which has proved to be one of the highest rating specials on the network to date.
Despite changes in ownership, management and programming, BET has managed to keep this special on the air and boy are we glad that it survived the cut. The 2-hour musical buffet is one in which some of the best names in gospel music get together to not only commemorate what they believe but to explore some of the genre’s best music. What I love most about this show is that it doesn’t just feature performances from gospel/inspirational artists.
Mainstream artists alike all flock together for this celebration of gospel music that is rivaled by none other. And with a host like Steve Harvey to provide you with the occasional chuckle and hilarious anecdotes about church-goers and other random subjects, you’re in for one great show. Although the programming on the BET network has become questionable as of late, this is one of the times when you won’t mind watching. The performances are stellar, the voices big and boisterous, the instrumentation poignant and the atmosphere charged. If you’ve never seen it before, this year will definitely be a year you will want to tune in.
The line-up of performers is going to be out of this world. Kelly Price and Ledisi will team up to sing “How Great Thou Art”, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino and her mother Diane Barrino will sing “He’s Done Enough,m” while the husband and wife team consisting of soul singer Anthony Hamilton and his wife Tarsha Hamilton will sing the track “Better”. If those big names aren’t enough to get you parked in front of your television on January 1oth, I don’t know what is.
Other artists confirmed to perform include Yolanda Adams, Grammy award winners BeBe and CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Marvin Sapp, James Fortune & FIYA, Tye Tribbett & Greater Anointing, and The City of Refuge P.S.A.L.M.S. Choir are due to perform.
This will be a musical experience you will NOT want to miss. Here’s video from last year’s special including Fantasia, Lil Mo, Coko and Kiki Sheard singing “Endow Me”.
