Moments ago, Rihanna premiered the music video for the next single release from her Rated R album entitled “Hard”. The video, which features Young Jeezy, shows a side of Rihanna we’ve gotten to know quite well in the past few weeks. She almost naked and toting this fiercely edgy attitude that says she knows how to use a gun and is not afraid to fire one. I understand that this shift in personna goes nicely with the tone of the album but I kind of think she’s taken it too far. In her last video we see her playing russian roulette with her boyfriend, then hearing a lone gunshot at the end. Now we see her commanding a group of troops and firing a round of ammunition all willy nilly like its a walk in the park.
I used to really like Rihanna’s music, but ever since she’s insistent upon me seeing her nipples everytime she’s photographed and promoting all kinds of cryptic underlying messages in her music, I dont know if I can support that. I hate to even take it here but I’m lead to believe the situation with Chris Brown will probably continue to not only affect her life in general, but the types of music she puts out. The fact that her album has officially flopped, will hopefully make her re-think the position she’s taking in her career as far as the direction her music is taking.
This was supposed to be a video review, but I’ve gone on some kind of tangent here. Am I over-analyzing this? Maybe. But, I long so much for the Rihanna who used to “Pon de Replay” that at times, all of this edge and whatnot is too musht for this old soul. Anyway, check out the military themed video for ‘Hard’. I’m sure some will love this. Do you?

Rihanna did an alright job, but she could’ve been a lot more original with the video, maybe had more of her own style, less Lady GaGa’s style
