Solange: Stillness is the Move

I know we all love to hate Beyonce but the fact of the matter is, her sister Solange is a great artist. The mere fact that she inadvertantly lives in her sister’s shadow is the reason why more people don’t know that. Her last album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St Dreams was track for track some great music. She’s definitely not afraid to experiment with her sound, her symbolism and her look. Her music always tells a story full of emotion, culture or controversy [See: F The Industry]. That’s the essence of music right there. Not just singing about big ego’s and video phones. I mean you know, in my opinion.

Solange surely doesnt disappoint here with this cover of Dirty Projector’s “Stillness Is The Move”. The track is rooted in a familiar sound (”Bumpy’s Lament” by Soul Mann and the Brothers) previously used by Erykah Badu on “Bag Lady” that is just as hot as it was then. The result is somehow simultaneously a futuristic exploration and a supercool throwback, full of smokey sexiness and plenty of after-hours pimp. And her vocals, flawless. I dont know why I slept on this track but it is hot. Take a listen.
