VIBE Magazine is not the only entity looking for a re-birth. So is its cover boy Chris Brown. Chris will be the first artist ( along with Drake and his knee) featured on the cover of the reinvented VIBE Magazine in an effort to both jump start Brown’s career following his domestic incident with ex-girlfriend Rihanna and create the necessary buzz around the magazine that’s needed to make this relaunch successful. The new direction will see the magazine reduced from 10 annual issues to 4, with a HUGE emphasis being placed on its online sector.
“Here, Vibe.com is really the hub,” said Jermaine Hall, editor in chief of the new Vibe and Vibe.com. “That’s where everything needs to go back to. Whether it’s the magazine, or we decide to do some kind of TV programming down the line, everything needs to come back to Vibe.com.”
This is a good move for VIBE since so many people (myself included) were saddened to hear that it had been sucked into the recession vortex that so many publications are being subjected to. As print publications become more and more obsolete and more online entities become prevalent — in the long run — this will be a monumental and smart step for the new Vibe magazine. Vibe.com will be the flagship site of the new Vibe Lifestyle Network which will also service and function as a full ad network. Source: AdAge
