This is the look you get.
President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress (and the Nation) last night and during his speech while making the comment he had never proposed providing coverage to illegal immigrants, Republican Joe Wilson of South Carolina shouted “YOU LIE!”
(Click to see video of the moment in question)
This address, meant to clarify the details of his impending health care reform package, sent a lot of Republicans and other non-Obama supporters over the edge. Not suprising that while the President detailed his consensus plan in plain and simple terms, Republicans sat in their chairs like scolded school children wearing universally constipated expressions of disdain.
The President seemed to care less and even stated that this package would happen with or without the Republican support. Either get on the train or get out of the way while it’s coming through – loosely translated of course.
However, Wilson’s outburst was absolutely disrespectful. That fool must’ve thought he was on the playground instead of on Capitol Hill talking serious business. You can’t go toe to toe with the ruler of the Free World.
Boy stop.
He’s since released an official statement via CNN, apologizing for his actions.
“…my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President…”
Notice Wilson didn’t say he was disrespectful or wrong. Just inappropriate. All of those words hold different weight, if you ask me. And, I’m sure he knows this as well.
You know, I have a real problem with certain people who are opposed to this health care package. Especially after last night when the President urged that he would never sign off on a bill that would increase the economy’s deficit.
The intentions of our President seem pure and noble. I mean you know, from where I sit. Making healthcare available to all people should be celebrated. You’d think the man was trying to lace school lunches with street drugs the way people are carrying on.
I know folks in other countries think we (as Americans) are nuts. We oppose universal healthcare and are in outrage when our President wants to address our children on the importance of education. So, we want a bunch of sick, stupid people in our country?
I sure don’t.
Privileged is not a word that I would like to associate with something like a person’s health. That just sends the wrong message. Like you have to hold a certain status, make a certain amount of money or be a certain skin color to qualify to live your life on this Earth. And more specifically, in this country.
For shame.
ObamaCare has the potential to be the best thing to happen to this country under the new adminstration. I suppose those that are against this won’t understand that until someone they know falls ill and can’t afford the medicine and treatment they need to survive. God forbid. Sometimes it takes unfortunate circumstances like that for people to see the good in a thing.
As for Joe Wilson, I know he realizes he’s got millions of people in outrage right now over his comments. Twitter is already buzzin’ over it. Which means it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the country reacts, if they have not done so already.I’m about ready to send him a “fool saddown” gift basket myself. C.O.D of course.
Frankly, I’m ecstatic about the Obama’s in the White House. But if Joe Wilson wants to jump crazy… something tells me he better know he hasn’t seen NOTHING yet. Nobody does crazy like….
What are your thoughts on the issue? Did you tune into the address last night? Do you think Obama won over Republican opposers? What’s your take on Joe Wilson’s actions?
Speak your mind (respectfully) in the comments.
