I’m a little outraged about the plea deal struck by Chris Brown in the assault case against Rihanna.
Okay, a little outraged is stating it lightly.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, said the plea deal includes five years of supervised probation and six months of community labor. Brown will be formally sentenced on Aug. 5.
I have a real problem with celebrities outrunning the law because they are celebrities. I realize that there were probably a million other things to take into consideration here – like the fact that he’s a first time offender and blah blah. But was I the ONLY one who saw that leaked photo of a bruised and battered Rihanna and this dude gets off with pretty much a slap on the wrist. I feel like if his name was Joe Hood they would throw his behind under the jail.
Whats the difference?
I mean he did plead guilty, which last time I checked means he’s saying “… yes, I beat the crap out of her.” ( loosely translated)
Upon perusing news reports, “several legal experts said the sentence appears to be in line with what other first-time offenders who plead guilty to the same crime would receive.” And Rihanna herself reportedly “approved of the plea.”
This is the same girl who after he beat her… went back to him. Does it really matter if she condones his sentence? He did a bad thing – does no one see this but me?
I can’t even begin to condone this. It’s just not right. Their actions put the ugly truth of domestic violence in the limelight YET this plea deal showcases the question of whether or not there is any justice for the privileged??
Am I the only one who sees a problem with this? Do you guys think his sentence was comparable with the crime? Do you think that his name had something to do with this lightened sentence?
Speak your mind in the comments….
